Shopko Pamida operate as a separate division until 2007, when it was separated from Shopko Pamida and restored as a separate company. In 2012, Shopko and Pamida join a company. Shortly thereafter, most of Pamida stores were rebranded as Shopko Hometown.

Chicago pharmacist James Ruben moved to Green Bay, where he opened his first store Shopco at 216 S. Military Avenue in 1962. It predicted a large retail store health services combined with retail operations. As a result, Shopco became one of the first chains to offer services such as a pharmacy and care center inside look at the store. In 2007, the logo was updated and the spelling was changed to “Shopko” with a lower case “k”.
